(Jan. 3, 2009): I just discovered a post that never was. I was putting labels on all of my posts and realized that there was no post on the Hana-no-mai sake festival in 2007. So here it is:
It was a beautiful day and this year I didn't have as much to drink as last year. Ayako had a bit more to drink this time, so I was kinda taking care of her, but basically she was fine:

Another typhoon/rainy day
It's Saturday, and we were home all day since a typhoon passed by today. They never hit our town, but we get lots of rain from the edge of them. We had two friends over for lunch and then chatting in the afternoon, so it was a nice relaxed day. The wind was quite strong on the lake, enough for whitecaps to form:Luckily after the storm had passed we were greeted with a wonderful rainbow. (Unfortunately this picture below doesn't do it justice. We were also amazed that we could see the entire arc, but it was too large to photograph.)
And then at night, we had a wonderful moon that shone beautifully off the lake. So it was a nice end to a wet day.Tomorrow we are off to the Hana-no-mai sake festival that we attended last year at this time. Should be lots of fun.

Weekend activities
This post starts off with the mystery of the floating hat:But before we reveal the secret, we will start with Ayako and I going to Sanaru Lake in our city to watch our friend, Eiki, in a regatta held by his company, Yamaha. We unfortunately showed up too late to see Eiki in his race, but did get to watch him in a rowing race on land:Luckily, there was also a air show on at the same time. There is a self-defense air force base in my city and so having fighter jets streaming overhead is nothing new. But this time they made pictures of hearts, rainbows and other designs:In the evening, we had some friends over for a BBQ. It was mighty windy outside, so we ate inside:We had a good time talking and playing games, including the game, drop the hat on Ayako's head (which looks like the start of a magic trick here):Sam and I tried many times to get a picture so that it looked like the hat was floating on Ayako's head. This was as good a shot as I could get:On Sunday, Ayako had three friends from high school over to our house. They had a fun time visiting for the first time.

Quiet Sunday Night
Christine's birthday party
Last night, Ayako and I went to Christine's birthday party which started out at a Peruvian restaurant:
Christine would be the one getting into both of the previous photos, although he's also a good shot of her with her boyfriend, Sam:Also that night was the return of Pete, who I haven't seen for the past year and a half. He was back in England to a Master's degree:We had some yummy Peruvian seafood for dinner:As well as some yummy juice called Chicha Morada, which is made from purple corn:

Asagiri Jam - 2007
On the weekend, Ayako and I went with friends to Asagiri Jam, a 2-day music festival near Mt. Fuji. If you look at October from last year, you can see last year's photos from the festival. We went with Keisuke, Christine, Sam (Ayako & Rie behind):
Also joining us were Jun & Taka:We got to watch lots of good bands. Half were from Japan and half from abroad. Here's a photo of the band I was most excited to see, Malajube (best band in Canada these days IMHO):
We also enjoyed yummy food:The area is well know for their milk (which is great for making White Russians) and so there was some farm equipment on display as well:
We also enjoyed just relaxing:At night, Sam & Christine dressed up as cows (udderly amusing):
We listened to good electronica music at the Moon Shine Stage:Here are Keisuke and Rie enjoying the show:
And on the main stage, we liked the light and sound show put on by Cornelius:
I even got a well-timed shot of A & A (which I think was specifically for us, Ayako & Andy):
And here we are enjoying it all:
The next morning, they played exercise music which is played at elementary schools every morning. It was funny watching everyone trying to remember the exercise routine from their childhoods:And here's us with Mt. Fuji in the background:Unfortunately, it was cloudy most of the time, so we didn't see Mt. Fuji all that much, but luckily there was no rain. A fun time had by all.

Visit from the inlaws
Although last weekend was awhile ago, I only got internet at home yesterday, and so hopefully I'll be able to post more regularly again. Anyways, last weekend, Ayako's sister and nephews (who I guess are now my nephews as well now) came for a visit. We had planned to go to the nearby schoolyard to play, but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and so we played inside instead. Anyways, here's a picture of Ayako with her sister, Sumiko:Here is the eldest son, Neo:
and here is his younger brother, Rio:
