Meeting up with Wayne in Tokyo

About a week ago, Wayne told us he'd be in Japan on a business trip, so we were able to meet up with him in Tokyo on Saturday.
We first went to Meiji shrine and were able to see a traditional-style wedding taking place:

We then went to Harajuku and Omotesando areas to look around at the stores. There was an opening of a toy store called Kiddy Land, so we took a look around inside:
We then went down to the Shibuya area where Wayne had his photo taken with Hachiko, a famous statue of a dog:
In the afternoon, we went to go see sumo since there is a tournament on in Tokyo now. Here is Wayne and Ayako in from of the trophies the champion will win:
Here is Wayne with his co-worker, Shinji, who was with us during the day:
This was my first time watching sumo in Tokyo. There is an arena built just for sumo wrestling there and I found it to be a much nicer place to watch sumo than the large gymnasium used in Nagoya.
Here is one of the entrance ceremonies for the sumo wrestlers:
I was lucky to get a couple of pictures when another photographer's flash was going off which produced some interesting shots. The first is of a famous wrestler, Kaio, throwing salt into the ring before he enters:
The next is of the grand champion, Hakuho, preparing for his match:
Afterwards, we said goodbye to Wayne and Shinji and got the bullet train back to Hamamatsu. Here I am having a bento box dinner in the train:

Farewell party for Abby

There was a farewell party for Abby that we went to on Saturday night. It was with the Photonics class that I used to teach, so it was nice seeing the class members again. We went to a nice restaurant for dinner and had a delicious cake for Abby's going away. Some of us then went on to a small jazz club.
